The Centre for Rights, Education and Awareness (CREAW) is a national, feminist women’s rights Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Established in 1999, CREAW’s vision is a just society where women and girls enjoy full rights and live in dignity.
CREAW uses bold, innovative, and holistic interventions for the realization of women’s rights. Our programs have over 20 years focused on challenging practices that undermine equity, equality, and constitutionalism; promoting women’s participation in decision-making; and deepening the ideology and philosophy of women’s empowerment.
We also support movement building to advance the agenda for social transformation, besides preventing, mitigating, and responding to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
As a catalyst of change, CREAW supports strategic and innovative initiatives, and collaborates with progressive thinkers, irrespective of gender, age, sexual orientation, race, class, education, or affiliations to reach its ideals.
Since 2018, with support from Global Affairs Canada, the Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) together with CARE Canada, CARE Kenya, Uraia Trust, Urgent Action Fund Africa, and Community Advocacy and Awareness (CRAWN) Trust have been implementing a project titled Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL).
The project’s main goal is to address the challenge of funding women’s rights work and women’s rights organizations in Kenya. Further, the implementing partners have been strengthening the institutional and governance capacity of the WROs to continue with the advocacy work at the grassroots level. The WVL program is a 5 years grant by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) anchored on Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP).
